There’s something undeniably magical about a Christmas wedding, twinkling lights, rich winter colours, Christmas trees and that unmistakable sense of warmth and celebration. G&S’s festive wedding at The Crazy Bear, Stadhampton was the perfect blend of fun, intimacy, and seasonal charm, making it an unforgettable day to photograph as an Oxfordshire wedding photographer.
As a natural, documentary wedding photographer covering Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire, winter weddings like this are always a joy to capture, full of atmosphere, emotion and beautiful light.
Why the Crazy Bear is a Unique Wedding Venue
The Crazy Bear, Stadhampton is a stunning choice for a winter wedding in Oxfordshire. The venue is bursting with character, from the iconic bear statues dotted throughout the grounds to the red London bus at the entrance and the variety of spaces for guests to relax, celebrate and dance.
Each room was softly lit with fairy lights, creating a warm and magical atmosphere throughout the day. As a Crazy Bear wedding photographer, I was spoilt for choice when it came to photographing the venue and the carefully planned details, something my couples always spend months perfecting.

Documentary Wedding Photography at The Crazy Bear
The Crazy Bear in Oxfordshire is renowned for its eclectic style and interiors, and at Christmas it truly comes into its own. From the moment guests arrived, the venue felt warm and inviting, with fun lantern, mirrored tables, and subtle Christmas décor adding to the atmosphere without overpowering it.
As a documentary wedding photographer in Oxfordshire, I loved capturing the natural flow of the day within such a visually rich setting. The wedding vows took place in the marquee, which was ideal for romantic, editorial-style wedding photography. Every corner of the venue offered something striking, from plush textures to dramatic architectural features.
The Crazy Bear is also a hotel, making it an ideal wedding venue for couples and guests, with no need to worry about accommodation. Being based close to Stadhampton myself, it’s a venue I know well and love photographing as an Oxfordshire wedding photographer.

Photographing Natural Moments
The ceremony itself was wonderfully intimate, filled with emotion and that quiet excitement unique to winter weddings. Soft lighting, flickering candles and natural light framed the couple beautifully, creating a timeless setting for heartfelt vows.
I was able to capture multiple perspectives throughout the ceremony, both the couple and their guests, which is something I always aim for as a documentary wedding photographer. Christmas weddings often bring people closer together, and there was a real sense of togetherness in the room, making it a joy to photograph natural, candid moments.

Natural & Candid Couple portraits
One of the highlights of the day was slipping away for couple portraits around the interiors and rooms of The Crazy Bear. Winter weddings offer a different kind of romance, with deep tones, soft shadows and a cinematic feel that works beautifully for documentary and natural wedding photography.
The contrast between the crisp December air outside and the warmth indoors allowed for a relaxed mix of intimate portraits and editorial images. The festive season added an extra layer of magic, making every photograph feel rich and atmospheric. Some couples prefer to keep their portraits private, which I always fully respect and understand.

Wedding Breakfast in The Crazy Bear Dining Room
As the afternoon turned into evening, celebrations flowed seamlessly into a candle-lit wedding breakfast filled with laughter, incredible food and festive cheer. Mulled wine, champagne and cocktails were flowing as guests caught up before heading in to dine, perfect moments for candid, documentary-style wedding photography.
The dining room was beautifully styled with a dark, festive theme. Mirrored tables reflected the lights, gold and purple chairs added richness, and each guest had a Christmas cracker carefully placed at their setting. As a wedding photographer, wedding breakfasts are always a fun and creative challenge to photograph.
A beautifully decorated Christmas tree with a wedding bow at the top provided a stunning backdrop for photographs, while the warm glow of the lighting created the perfect atmosphere for speeches, toasts and those in-between moments that truly tell the story of the day.

Joy, Movement & Unfiltered Moments
Gary & Sara had planned an evening full of surprises and keeping me in the loop meant nothing was missed. From a cowboy first dance to a mirrored disco bunny, the dancefloor was full of energy and fun.
The venue’s mirrored disco ball tied perfectly into the theme, and the casino-style event in the marquee was a brilliant surprise for guests. With multiple rooms available, The Crazy Bear, Stadhampton catered perfectly for an eventful and unforgettable wedding celebration.

From the first dance to the final moments of the night, the atmosphere was effortlessly elegant and full of life.
